Overwhelmed?

Feeling overwhelmed?   You are not alone.  Just like you, many woke up today feeling overwhelmed by some aspect of life.

What is overwhelming you?  Finances?  Relationships?  Work?  Taxes? Health?  Listen to these words sung by King David in Psalm 61:2-3:  “I cry to you for help when my heart is overwhelmed.  Lead me to the towering rock of safety, for you are my safe refuge!”

Whatever is overwhelming you, take it to God. He can handle it.  Imagine boxing up that worry and laying it at his feet.  In return, he gives you his irrational peace to guard your heart (Phil. 4:6-7).   I call it a divine exchange…our worry for his peace.

Once you have laid your worries at his feet, make a deliberate choice to focus on God and his bigness. When we see our concerns in the light of his bigness, our worries can be put back in proper perspective.  Against the backdrop of his power, our issues can be seen as manageable through him.

So be encouraged!  You may be overwhelmed, but God is with you.  He is on your side.  He longs to be your place of safety and refuge.  He desires to keep you safe beneath the shelter of his wings (Psalm 61:4).

Lord, I pray that you would do a divine exchange in me today.  Take my worries, cares and concerns.  I place them at your feet.  In exchange, I receive you peace.  I acknowledge your presence in my life.  I take refuge in your great love for me and in your power to lead me through every circumstance.  Help me to rest in the shelter of your wings!  Amen.

  1. Wow, so true. We surrender but then lose our trust and pick up our worries all over again. Looking back, so many times the burdens and the things God said no to were times I was the most richly blessed! His plan is always best and He will never give us more than we can carry.
