“They are back…they are back,” the news spread rapidly from house to house throughout the community. An eager crowd of people gathered to hear the long-awaited report.
“We entered the Promised Land you sent us to explore,” the spies informed Moses. “It is indeed a land flowing with milk and honey…a bountiful country. But the people living there are giants! The people are powerful; their towns are large and fortified.”
But Caleb, trying to quiet the people, spoke to Moses above the crowd, “Let’s go at once to take the land,” he said. “We can certainly conquer it!”
But the other men retorted, “We can’t!” And they continued to spread their bad report. (Numbers 13)
“But”–a powerful, three-letter word. It can empower or disempower. What is the word “but” doing in you world? Is it causing you to shrink back from God’s promises for you life, family and children? Or are you looking at the “giants” and saying “but God can”?
Be a Caleb!!! When the bad reports start going through your mind bringing fear, anxiety and hopelessness, say to yourself: “Yes, there are obstacles, but Caleb saw what was possible with his God. There are giants, but with God all things are possible. I am overwhelmed, but I can do all things through Christ who gives me strength!”
Lord, help me be a Caleb today!
