Praying Psalm 1 Over Our Children

praying for our children beachJoin me in praying this prayer  based on Psalm 1 over your children.  The age of your children does not matter.  They may be adults with children of their own.  If that is the case, then pray this prayer over your children and grandchildren.  Believe with me that our prayers will impact our children and coming generations.

Psalm 1 (NIV)

Blessed is the one who does not walk in step with the wicked or stand in the way that sinners take or sit in the company of mockers,

but whose delight is in the law of the Lord, and who meditates on his law day and night.

Father, thank you that my children do not walk in step with the wicked or stand in the way that sinners take.  Thank you that they do not sit in the company of mockers.  Their delight is in the law of the Lord, and they meditate on his law day and night.  I declare this over them today.  Thank you that they are not comfortable keeping the company of sinners and walking in their ways.  They find no delight in the company of the godless or mockers.  Instead, your Holy Spirit’s conviction arrests their hearts, calling them to yourself and to your Word.  Your Spirit draws them.  Your Word reminds them of the superiority of your ways.

That person is like a tree planted by streams of water, which yields its fruit in season and whose leaf does not wither—whatever they do prospers.

Father, I declare that my children are like trees planted by streams of water.  They will bear fruit in due time.  Their leaves will not wither.  The word that has been planted in them will not return without impact.  When they walk in your ways, whatever they do will prosper.  When they do not walk in your ways, only profound conviction and discontent result.

Not so the wicked! They are like chaff that the wind blows away.

Therefore the wicked will not stand in the judgment, nor sinners in the assembly of the righteous.

O Father, I thank you that my children will not be counted among the wicked.  They are not like chaff that the wind blows away, nor are they like the sinners who face judgment.  In the assembly of the wicked, they only find emptiness.  I declare that the blood of Jesus covers them, and that they will be at home in the assembly of the righteous.  They will be single-minded in their devotion to you and your Word.  I decree it in Jesus’ Name.

For the Lord watches over the way of the righteous, but the way of the wicked leads to destruction.

My children will not walk in the way of the wicked, nor will they travel down the pathway to destruction.  Any steps they take on that path will be intercepted by your Holy Spirit and by your great grace.  Destruction will not be their inheritance, but your favor and protection, O God, will be their reward.  You have made them righteous by the blood of Jesus, and their actions will conform to that identity they have in you.

Thank you, Father!  In the realm of eternity, the spiritual battle for the hearts of my children has already been won.  May the eternal reality of your kingdom in heaven become the reality here on earth.  Amen!

This is the first of fifteen prayers I’ve written and prayed multiple times over our children. I will continue to reblog these over the next few weeks. Join me in interceding for our children and grandchildren. Each of these prayers is derived from a passage of scripture that I have then turned into a prayer. So jump in!
